[Dan Muir] Sometimes milestones don’t end in a blaze of near-glory but in a feeble groundout to second. For the first time since mid-June, Brett Austen’s average has dipped below .400, now at .39966. Tyson, Seattle pitcher Clint Shakely made quick work of the A’s in that inning.

[Tyson Porter] Yeah, Dan, Shakely looks like the Clint Shakely I faced about ten years ago. He’s got velocity, movement, and he’s painting the corners. He’s also bringing his nasty attitude. Remember, he was a late add today because of his success against Austen but also to rest Kenny Roberts for the Wild Card Series. He’s an innings eater and is in there to keep the bullpen fresh for the playoffs.

[Dan Muir] And as we saw in that first inning, Shakely will not be grooving a pitch to Austen.

[Tyson Porter] There’s no love between those two. When it comes down to it, Shakely may just bean Austen in the rest of his at bats to ensure he doesn’t get to .400.

[Dan Muir, laughing] That would certainly live up to his reputation.

[Tyson Porter] No, Dan, I’m serious.
